This ball of yarn fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and weighs 1 pound. You can use an action to speak the command word and do one of the following:
1: Place it on the ground, and it will animate, rolling alongside you, unfurling a glowing red thread that is easily visible in all non-magical darkness, and is faintly visible behind illusions. There is enough yarn to last 3 miles, and when it runs out it immediately re-furls.
2: Throw the ball, and it unfurls to bind an enemy, making a ranged attack roll with an attack bonus equal to your Dexterity modifier plus your proficiency bonus. This attack roll doesn’t incur vision-based penalties. On a hit, the target is restrained until you take a bonus action to speak the command word again to release it. While restrained in this way, a creature doesn’t benefit from invisible
A creature, including the one restrained, can use an action to make a DC 15 Strength check to escape the yarn. On a success, the yarn slowly re-furls over 24 hours and the restrained creature is freed. If the check fails, any further attempts made by that creature automatically fail until 8 hours have elapsed.
Once the yarn is used, it can't be used again until the next dawn.
