Wondrous Item, uncommon

This ammunition appears as an arrow or crossbow bolt with no head, instead being tipped with a tiny glass orb. This orb appears to contain a tiny ember of elemental energy, corresponding to the damage type of the ammunition. When this ammunition is fired, instead of firing a bolt or arrow, it explodes with a blast of magical energy in a 20-foot cone in front of the user, forcing all creatures within the area to make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw. Creatures within the area take 3d6 damage of the damage type befitting the ammunition on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Each type of ammunition has an additional effect as outlined below.

There are six damage types that this ammunition may have. Upon this ammunition being found, the DM may choose to roll a d6 to determine the type.

D6 Result

Damage Type

Additional Effect

1

Fire

Flammable objects in the area are set on fire.

2

Cold

Surfaces in the area are covered in a thin layer of ice, becoming difficult terrain for 10 minutes. For the same duration, any creature that enters the area on its turn or begins its turn in the area must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone.

3

Lightning

Any creatures that fail their saving throw cannot take reactions. At the end of each of the user’s turns, they make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw; on a success, the effect ends for that creature.

4

Radiant

Any creatures that fail their saving throw are blinded until the end of the user’s next turn.

5

Necrotic

Any creatures that fail their saving throw cannot regain hit points for ten minutes.

6

Thunder

Any creatures that fail their saving throw are pushed back 15 feet and fall prone.

The arrow is destroyed once fired.
