Weapon (net), rare

The Garrote is a stealthy and lethal weapon designed for incapacitating targets silently. It is a length of strong, thin wire with handles on either end, specifically crafted for precise and silent use. This weapon is used in situations where the element of surprise is crucial.

Properties:

  • Silenced: Targets grappled by the garrote are silenced.
  • Stealthy: The Garrote can only be used effectively when the wielder is hidden from the target or when the target is unaware of the impending attack.

  • Subdual Damage: The Garrote inflicts subdual damage. When a creature drops to 0 hit points due to this damage, it becomes unconscious rather than falling unconscious or dying. The wielder can choose to render the target unconscious without causing lasting harm.

Attack:

  • When you make an attack with the Garrote against a surprised or unaware creature, both parties must make a Strength saving throw contested by each other.

  • On Success (Garroter's Save): The wielder successfully restrains the target with the Garrote. The target takes 2d6 + Strength modifier subdual damage initially, and the Garrote is securely in place.

  • On Failure (Garroter's Save): The wielder fails to secure the Garrote, and the attempt is unsuccessful. The Garrote is not effectively applied, and the target takes no initial damage.

Subsequent Rounds:

  • At the start of each of the target's turns, the target must make a Strength saving throw contested by the Garroter's Strength saving throw. On a failure, the target takes 2d6 + Strength modifier subdual damage. This process continues until the Garrote is successfully removed or the target breaks free.

Breaking Free:

  • The target or a creature adjacent to the target can use an action to attempt a Strength (Athletics) check against the Garroter's Strength saving throw DC. On a success, the target breaks free from the Garrote, ending the sustained damage effect.

Ignore the Net stats. DND Beyond wouldn't allow it to be a special weapon.

Proficiency with a net allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

A Large or smaller creature hit by a net is restrained until it is freed. A net has no effect on creatures that are formless, or creatures that are Huge or larger. A creature can use its action to make a DC 10 Strength check, freeing itself or another creature within its reach on a success. Dealing 5 slashing damage to the net (AC 10) also frees the creature without harming it, ending the effect and destroying the net.

When you use an action, bonus action, or reaction to attack with a net, you can make only one attack regardless of the number of attacks you can normally make.
