Weapon (longsword), legendary

Slumbering (Uncommon). In its slumbering form, this ancient katana is nothing special. A simple rusted sword, not even fit for use in battle.

Stirring (Rare). When fused with the red gem by platinum dragon breath, a sentience awakens within the ancient weapon. Amaterasu can communicate telepathically with those she chooses, and can return to her chosen wielder at will. You can use a bonus action to cause flames to erupt from Amaterasu's blade. These flames shed bright light in a 40-foot radius and dim light for an additional 40 feet. While Amaterasu is ablaze, she deals an extra 2d6 fire damage to any target she hits. The flames last until you use another bonus action to extinguish them or until you drop or sheathe Amaterasu. Those who wield the ancient weapons form a spiritual bond, gaining the ability to communicate with each other telepathically as long as their weapon is with them.

Wakened (Very Rare). Your bond with Amaterasu has grown stronger during your short time together, allowing you to work more cohesively in combat. In her awakened state, Amaterasu no longer requires a bonus action to ignite, instead sensing the moment she is needed and igniting autonomously.  Amaterasu can spread her flames to your ranged weapons as well, igniting the ammunition as you fire it. When you hit with an attack roll using a ranged weapon, the target takes an extra 1d4 fire damage.

Ascendant (Legendary). When she is fully awakened, Amaterasu grows even further, dealing 2d8 base damage on a hit. She also gains the ability to manifest a spectral copy of herself, allowing the wielder to take a bonus action to make an offhanded strike with the additional blade. You don’t add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
