Weapon (greatsword), legendary (requires attunement)

This silver greatsword was forged by the dwarven smith Delverhaugh in the frozen northern mountains of Durram before the Silence, and wielded by the greatest champion of the north, the dragonborn Renna. Tempered far beneath the mountain and cooled by the breath of the silver dragon Akafiloga, the blade has retained its chilling bite across the millennia, though it has diminished greatly. Maybe the right hands can remind it of the will of its makers, and make it whole once again.

To any wielder not attuned to Alabaster, it is a silver greatsword with no additional properties.

Dormant

The silver greatsword grants the following benefits in its dormant state:

  • You can speak, read, and write Dwarvish and Draconic.
  • You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. If you have the Spellcasting or Pact Magic feature, you may use Intelligence for attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
  • You have resistance to cold damage.
  • Once during each of your turns, when you take the Attack action, you may move up to half your movement speed before making one of your attacks. You may do so an amount of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all expended uses at the next dawn.

Awakened

When the silver greatsword reaches its awakened state, it gains the following properties:

  • The weapon's bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +2.
  • The weapon deals an extra 2d8 cold damage to any target it hits. Creatures dealt cold damage this way have their movement speed reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.

Exalted

When the silver greatsword reaches its exalted state, it gains the following properties:

  • The weapon's bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +3.
  • As an action, you may leap up to your speed without provoking opportunity attacks. Each other creature within a 15-foot radius of where you land must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, a creature takes 8d8 cold damage and is vulnerable to the next instance of damage it takes that isn't cold damage. On a success, a creature takes half as much cold damage and isn't vulnerable. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until the next dawn unless you spend a spell slot of 6th level or higher.

Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.

Notes: Language: Dwarvish, Language: Draconic, Resistance: Cold, Heavy, Two-Handed, Graze
