Weapon (lance), legendary

Astral Shifter

The Astral Shifter is a finely crafted longlance sword with an ethereal aura. When attuned to this weapon, a wielder gains the ability to split it into multiple smaller blades, each capable of independent attacks. The shifting forms of the Astral Shifter are controlled by the wielder's mental commands.

#### Properties:

1. **Base Form - Longswordlance:**
- In its default form, the Astral Shifter functions as a finely balanced longsword, dealing 1d12 slashing damage. It carries no additional magical properties in this state.

2. **Splitting Mechanism:**
- As a bonus action, the wielder can mentally command the Astral Shifter to split into two identical longswords. Each longsword can be wielded independently.

3. **Dual Wielding:**
- While split into longswords, the wielder can make separate attacks with each weapon during their turn, providing the option for dual-wielding combat.

4. **Ranged Configuration:**
- By expending a bonus action, the wielder can transform one of the longswords into an ethereal projectile. This projectile can be thrown up to 30 feet, dealing 1d6 slashing damage upon impact.

5. Magical Cache. Whilst having this weapon magically in your armoury cache you can split it into 4 shortswords dealing 1d6 per sword.

6. **Blade Cyclone (Recharge 1/Day):**

- As an action, the wielder can command the Astral Shifter to transform into a swirling vortex of blades, extending its reach and dealing slashing damage to all creatures in a 10-foot radius. After using this ability, the Astral Shifter reverts to its base form.

#### Attunement:

To attune to the Astral Shifter, a character must spend a short rest focusing on the sword's magical essence. Once attuned, the wielder gains a mental link with the weapon, allowing them to command its various forms with thought alone.

#### Lore:

The origins of the Astral Shifter are shrouded in mystery, with whispers suggesting it was forged by a legendary elven smith who drew inspiration from the ever-changing celestial bodies. Its ability to shift forms reflects the fluidity and adaptability of the cosmos.

Certainly! Here's a curse to add a layer of challenge and complexity to the Astral Shifter:

### Astral Shifter with Curse

The Astral Shifter, despite its incredible versatility, bears the weight of an enigmatic curse that intertwines with the celestial essence within. This curse manifests as an unpredictable aspect tied to the weapon's astral nature.

#### Curse:

**Fickle Flux:**
- The Astral Shifter's forms sometimes shift unexpectedly, causing the wielder to lose control momentarily. Roll a d20 at the start of each day to determine the day's prevailing flux (use this result for any unexpected shifts):

- **Roll (1-5): Unstable Manifestation:**
- The Astral Shifter occasionally shifts forms without the wielder's command during combat, potentially hindering attacks. At the start of each turn in combat, roll a d20. On a roll of 1-3, the weapon unexpectedly shifts form. The wielder must use their action to regain control, skipping their attack for that turn.

- **Roll (6-10): Astral Resonance:**
- The wielder occasionally senses echoes of astral energies, gaining moments of heightened awareness. At the start of each turn in combat, roll a d20. On a roll of 1-3, the wielder gains advantage on their next attack or saving throw.

- **Roll (11-15): Planar Instability:**
- The Astral Shifter's presence disrupts the fabric of reality, causing minor planar shifts. At the start of each turn in combat, roll a d20. On a roll of 1-3, a faint astral echo momentarily confuses enemies, granting the wielder a +2 bonus to AC until the start of their next turn.

- **Roll (16-20): Ethereal Empowerment:**
- The Astral Shifter resonates with ethereal energies, empowering the wielder. At the start of each turn in combat, roll a d20. On a roll of 1-3, the wielder gains a +2 bonus to damage rolls for their next successful attack.

#### Lore:

The curse is a consequence of the weapon's deep connection to astral energies, a testament to the unpredictable and capricious nature of the celestial realms from which it draws power.
