This ink-dark quill is made from the feather of a legendary raven familiar, and it never runs dry. Used by master archivists and scrollwrights of ancient colleges, the quill hums with subtle magic and grants its wielder unparalleled control over the creation and manipulation of scrolls.
Arcane Devotion.
You can only attune to this item if all your levels are in the Wizard class. If you multiclass, you immediately lose attunement, and the quill’s enchantment fades until reclaimed by a true wizard.
Boons of the Archivist
-
When you copy a spell from a scroll into your spellbook or create a scroll, treat the spell as if it were a number of levels lower equal to half your Proficiency Bonus (rounded down, minimum 1) for the purposes of time and gold cost.
(This does not affect whether you can learn or scribe a spell of a particular level.) -
When you cast a spell from a scroll, it is cast as if the scroll were a number of levels higher equal to half your Proficiency Bonus (rounded down), up to your highest available spell slot.
(If the spell has an increased effect when cast at higher levels, that effect applies.)
Minor Magical Effects
-
Silent Ink. When you copy a spell into your spellbook, the quill writes silently and flawlessly, even without a writing surface. It resists smudging and glows faintly when near illusion magic.
-
Scroll Sense. You can identify the school of magic of any magical scroll by touch, without needing to cast Identify.
-
Inkbind. Once per long rest, when you cast a spell from a scroll, you may immediately copy it into your spellbook at no cost, provided it is of a level you can learn and does not require components beyond the scroll itself.
