Staff, artifact

A wooden staff with ornate scale-like carvings covering it. There is a carving of a serpent on the top of the staff, with a crystal-like sphere being held in its mouth. It grants a +2 to your Spell Casting modifier and as a Bonus Action you may change the staff into a living serpent that acts as your companion (See Constrictor Snake stat block. Double the health, increase damage die by 1, increase DCs to 16). If the staff is not in your hand, you may have it still equipped by it wrapping around your forearm in its Serpent Form, requiring only a Bonus Action to equip it. While in Serpent Form, you make take the following actions:

Venom Spray - The Serpent shoots venom from their mouth at a target you can see within 5 feet of you. The target must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC 16. On a failure, they suffer 4d6 Poison damage. On a success, they take half damage. Can be used 3 times per Long Rest

Coil - The Serpent leaps off of your forearm at a target you can see within 10 feet of you. The target must make a Strength saving throw with a DC 16. On a failure, the target is Restrained. The target may repeat this saving throw on its turn. Can be used twice per Long Rest

Bite - If you fail a grapple check, the Serpent lunges and bites the target for 2d6 Piercing damage. The target must make a Strength saving throw with a DC 16, on a failure, you are no longer grappled.

If the Serpent's hitpoints reach 0, it reverts back to its Staff Form, however broken. Up to DM's discretion on how to repair it.
