Staff, artifact (requires attunement by a druid or sorcerer)

You can use this staff as a spellcasting focus for your druid or sorcerer spells. While holding this staff, you gain a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls and the saving throw DCs of your druid or sorcerer spells. The staff can be wielded as a magic quarterstaff that grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.

The staff gains power based upon any combination of the holder's druid and sorcerer levels while holding the staff.

Level 3: You gain the following cantrip that counts as a druid and/or sorcerer spell

  • Moonfire:
    • Casting Time: 1 Action
    • Range: 120 Feet
    • Components: V, S
    • Duration: Instantaneous/Concentration, up to 1 minute
    • A mote of magical energy fires from the staff and to a creature or object within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, roll 1d6 to determine the spell's effect:
      • 1) The target takes 1d4 fire and 1d4 radiant damage
      • 2-3) The target takes 2d4 fire damage and has vulnerability to radiant damage
      • 4-5) The target takes 2d4 radiant damage and has vulnerability to fire damage
      • 6) The target takes 1d4 fire and 1d4 radiant damage and has vulnerability to fire and radiant damage
    • The vulnerability granted by this spell lasts until the first time it takes damage from a source that it is vulnerable to or you lose concentration. If the target has resistance to the damage type of the granted vulnerability, it instead takes damage as normal for as long as the vulnerability would otherwise last. If the target is immune to the damage type of the granted vulnerability, it instead takes damage as if it were resistant for as long as the vulnerability would otherwise last.
    • The spell creates more than one mote when you reach higher levels: two motes at 5th level, three motes at 11th level, and four motes at 17th level. You can direct the motes at the same target or different targets. Make a separate attack roll for each mote.

Level 6: Whenever you cast a spell that deals damage of a type that the target is vulnerable to, you can grant yourself advantage to the spell attack roll for that spell or grant the target disadvantage on the saving throw against the spell. If you do, the target loses its vulnerability for the purpose of that spell.

Level 11: The bonus to spell attack rolls, saving throw DCs, and melee attack and damage rolls is increased to +2

Level 15: You can roll the d6 twice for the purposes of the Moonfire spell and use either result.

Level 20: The bonus to spell attack rolls, saving throw DCs, and melee attack and damage rolls is increased to +3. In addition, when you damage a creature with a spell with a damage type that it is vulnerable to, you can re-roll any number of the damage dice for that spell. You must keep the new results.
