As an action, you can insert or remove a rune from the hilt of the sword. Each rune grants the sword additional properties or abilities, enhancing its power in combat. The sword can hold a maximum of four runes at a time.
Rune Slots: The Runic Sword has four rune slots available for inserting runes. Runes vary in power and size, with more powerful runes occupying multiple slots.
Rune Empowerment: While attuned to the Runic Sword, you can activate the powers of the inserted runes to augment your attacks. Each rune imbues the sword with different abilities, such as additional damage, elemental effects, or defensive bonuses.
Standard Issue Runes:
1 Rune Slot:
Rune of Flame: Adds 1d6 fire damage to your attacks and grapples.
Rune of Frost: Adds 1d6 cold damage to your attacks and reduces the target's speed by 10 feet until the end of their next turn.
Rune of Protection: Grants a +1 bonus to AC while the rune is inserted.
Rune of Healing: Grants the wielder the ability to use a bonus action to expend a hit die and regain hit points equal to the result + your Constitution modifier. This may be used on others.
2 Rune Slots:
Greater Rune of Lightning: Adds 2d6 lightning damage to your attacks and allows you to cast the lightning bolt spell once per long rest.
Rune of Petrification: On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be restrained and start turning to stone. At the end of each of its turns, the restrained target can make another Constitution saving throw. On a success, the effect ends.
Rune of the Aegis: Grants a +2 bonus to AC to the wielder while the rune is inserted. All allows within 20 feet gain +1 AC.
3 Rune Slots:
Rune of Vorpal Strike: On a critical hit, the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be decapitated instantly. Requires 3 rune slots.
Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
