Armor (shield), legendary

The Arcaegis is a legendary shield crafted by ancient sorcerers to defend against the most formidable magical threats. It is made from a mysterious alloy that seems to shimmer with an otherworldly glow. Runes of protection are etched into its surface, pulsating with latent magical energy. At its center is a large, multifaceted gemstone that captures and channels mystical power.

Spell Warding: The Aegis of the Arcane provides unparalleled protection against magical attacks. While wielding this shield, the bearer gains advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects. Additionally, the shield has charges equal to the bearer's proficiency bonus. When the bearer is targeted by a spell or magical effect, they can expend one charge to negate the effect entirely.

Reflective Aura: Upon successfully negating a spell or magical effect using the Aegis of the Arcane, the bearer can choose to reflect the energy back at the caster. The caster must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC equal to 8 + bearer's proficiency bonus + bearer's Constitution modifier). On a failed save, the caster takes force damage equal to the spell's level or the effect's power, and they are pushed back 10 feet.

Ethereal Empowerment: While wielding the Aegis of the Arcane, the bearer gains temporary hit points equal to their Constitution modifier at the start of each of their turns. These hit points represent the shield's ability to absorb and mitigate magical energy. Additionally, the bearer's attacks with melee weapons are considered magical to overcome resistance and immunity to non-magical attacks.

Once all charges are expended, the shield loses its magical properties until the bearer completes a long rest, at which point 1d4 charges are regained.

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
