This magical, mechanical armor is made of grey steel and mithril joints with a modular set of equipment slots all over its form. The chestpiece bears an 8-sided runic Mithradan core that emits a faintly glowing grey, ghostly mist around its wearer.
Dweomer Mithradan Core: The armor is powered by an ancient Dweomer core that, when charged, can passively move the very heavy limbs of this armor in perfect sync with their wearer. Any Divine spellcaster can use an Action to expend one of their spell slots into the armor's core, giving it 1 charge per spell slot level expended. A non- divine caster may also charge it with a spell that deals radiant damage by using their action and casting it directly into the core at range touch. Expending additional spell slots adds additional charges. No more than 18 charges may be stored within the Golem Plate at a time.
While wearing the AEGIS, you may expend 2 charges into its Dweomer Mithradan Core to allow the armor to move around for up to 8 hours, doubling your carrying capacity and giving you advantage on Athletics checks to run or march long distances. When the Golem Plate runs out of charges, or you choose not to consume charges to allow it to move, it becomes immobile and you are considered Restrained until you exit the armor. As an Action, you may enter or exit the AEGIS, but doing so while restrained requires a DC 11 Strength check. You may also wear any medium or light armor while inside the AEGIS but may not benefit from any of its effects.
Upgrades: The AEGIS is highly modular and can be improved with the right technological and magical know-how. These upgrades can be crafted with enough time and resources by a sufficiently talented Artificer and their overall cost and crafting DC can be found with each description. The armor can have up to 4 magical upgrades attached at any one time with only one being attached to each slot (two seperate slots for each hand). These upgrades can be swapped out during a short or long rest by passing an Arcana or Armorsmithing (INT) tools check equal to the upgrade's crafting DC. On a failure, the device malfunctions immediately. The following upgrades already have blueprints but more may exist/could be requested:
Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
