Rod, rare

Using two Immovable Rods a system was devised to climb with ease.

Each Rod would be connected to a rope and stirrup or simple loop passed through a large metal ring that was attacked to a belt and leg harness.
Each foot stirrup was attached to its opposite rod. Right hand rod to left foot and left hand rod to right foot.
The stirrup ropes would be passed through the metal loop attaching the whole thing together to keep the user from falling in case of a slip.

In use the user would put a foot into each stirrup and the rods would be measured and lengthened to be at shoulder height.
Lift one foot and its opposite rod as high as possible.
Lock rod in place and do the same for the other foot and rod.
Using each in succession to climb.
Thus almost all the characters weight would be supported and lifted by their feet.

With practice this could be used to climb as high as you wish even in the open air.
The climb rate should be determined by the DM but a normal climb rate should not be out of possibilities.
The climb distance is only limited to the amount of time you wish to spend climbing.
The rate of movement laterally(sideways) should be limited to a quarter your climb rate.

You could even use a hammock to sleep while in the air.
