This ornate compass, encased in a sturdy yet ancient metal, features intricate runes and gemstones representing the four elements around its circumference. The compass needle, made from a shard of pure aether, points not north but towards the strongest source of elemental energy nearby. Its creation is attributed to the long-lost society of star mages, who were said to navigate the currents between the elemental planes themselves.

Properties:

• Elemental Detection: While holding this compass, the user can use an action to cast Detect Magic at will, with a particular sensitivity to elemental magic. The compass points towards the most significant source of elemental energy within a 1-mile radius.

• Elemental Affinity: The bearer has advantage on saving throws against spells and effects that deal elemental damage (fire, cold, lightning, air, and earth).

• Guidance of the Planes: Once per day, the user can ask the compass for guidance on how to safely travel to a location strongly associated with an element. The compass spins and stops, pointing in the direction the user should begin their journey.

Evolving Powers:

• As the bearer learns more about the elemental planes and demonstrates mastery over the elements, the compass unlocks additional abilities:

  • Control Weather: After mastering the elemental plane of Air, you can cast Control Weather once per week.

  • Gust of Wind: Upon understanding the whispering winds of the elemental plane of Air, you can cast Gust of Wind once per day.

  • Wall of Fire: Once the searing heat of the elemental plane of Fire is harnessed, you can cast Wall of Fire once per day.

  • Tsunami: Upon braving the deep waters of the elemental plane of Water, you can cast Tsunami once per week.

  • Earthquake: By standing firm on the elemental plane of Earth, you can cast Earthquake once per week.

Curse - Wanderlust: The compass instills a desire in the bearer to explore the elemental planes. Over time, the bearer may feel compelled to venture closer to these dangerous realms, seeking the source of the compass's power.
