Wondrous Item, uncommon

Because a Wizard is never fully dressed without a hat.

This is a tall pointed hat with a wide floppy brim. It is made of midnight blue crushed velvet adorned with sequins in the shape of stars, moons, and lightning bolts.

If a Wizard is wearing this hat, they can use their Action or Bonus Action to remove it and place any item inside, much like a Bag of Holding. The hat can hold an unlimited quantity of items, regardless of size, as long as they are magical items that the wizard can lift. Attempting to place a non-magical item inside the hat does not work. It also fails to work if the user is not a Wizard.

If the hat is turned inside-out, all items stored inside will fall out. They will also fall out if the hat goes 24 hours without being worn by a Wizard.

When attempting to retrieve an item from the hat, the Wizard can use their Action or Bonus Action to remove the hat and pull out an item. When they do, they should roll a d8. On a 1-7, they retrieve the desired item.

On a roll of 8, another item is pulled from the hat instead. Roll a d20 and consult the table below to determine what item is drawn:

d20 Item drawn
1 A half-eaten carrot.
2 A long string of brightly-coloured flags.
3 1d4 billiard balls.
4 A dove.
5 A silk handkerchief.
6 A heavy ceramic sphere drilled with three finger-sized holes.
7 A glass bowl of water containing a live goldfish.
8 A custard pie.
9 A cuddly owlbear toy.
10 Nothing at all.
11 A slightly smaller non-magical wizard's hat.
12 A pair of clean dry socks.
13 You feel another hand grab yours and then let go.
14 A large bouquet of flowers.
15 A ham and cheese sandwich.
16 Two tickets for the nearest play or opera performance taking place that evening.
17 A two-handed great-axe.
18 A set of strangely-shaped keys.
19 A healing potion. This can only happen once a week; empty potion bottles thereafter.
20 A rabbit. If another rabbit is drawn later, the first rabbit drawn disappears in a puff of smoke.
