Weapon (longsword), rare (requires attunement by a Paladin)

The sleek, yet hefty Dawnbreaker is a longsword to behold. The blade shines brightly, almost unnaturally when under the light of the Sun. It is believed to possess some sort of magical ability due to it's embracing aura. However, after Dawnbreaker was used to plunge through the heart of a corrupt and possessed king, it's shine dimmed. Now, whenever the blade is under direct moonlight, the wielder begins to hear agonizing and dreadful voices in their head. Presumably that of the phantom haunting the King who was slain.

You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon, which deals radiant damage instead of slashing damage.

When you are under direct moonlight, Dawnbreaker no longer grants a +2 bonus to attack or damage rolls, and deals slashing damage instead of radiant damage. However, one may use an action in attempt to commune with the phantom within the sword in order to unleash it's nightmarish power. Upon a DC 15 Wisdom Saving throw, you quell the torturous voices and a midnight purple aura envelopes you and the weapon. The wielder now gains a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls, is resistant to necrotic damage, and deals necrotic damage instead of slashing damage. On a failed Wisdom Saving Throw, you take 1d6 of psychic damage as you are overwhelmed by the phantom's shrieks. These bonuses revert back to their original bonuses once Dawn Breaks.

This Magic Weapon Possesses 2 levels of Attunement: 1. Once the wielder of this weapon has slain 20 monsters of any evil alignment, they learn how to harness the swords ability to cultivate light. Allowing for emission of sunlight and extra radiant damage against undead. 2. Upon slaying 50 monsters of any good alignment, the wielder has overcome the moonlight curse of the blade. Once this attunement has been achieved, the wielder no longer needs to pass a Wisdom Saving Throw to harness it's necrotic properties.

Once Attunement Level 1 has been reached:

  • Undead targets hit by this weapon take an extra 1d8 radiant damage.
  • Upon the use of a bonus action,  You summon the sunlight entrapped within the blade, emitting a bright light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet. The light is sunlight.

Once Attunement Level 2 has been reached:

  • Under direct moonlight, you may commune with the phantom within the sword at will. The use of an action will provide +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls, resistantance to necrotic damage, and deal necrotic damage instead of slashing damage without passing a Wisdom saving throw.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
