Weapon (longsword), very rare (requires attunement by a a creature that defeated a balor)

This blade crackles with malevolent energy, a dark weapon made from the very lightning that courses through the infinite abyss. Stolen from a still living Balor, this weapon has slain thousands of foes in its lifetime.

While attuned to this weapon you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
  • This weapon deals and additional 2d4 lightning damage.
  • You gain resistance to lightning damage.

Additionally you can cast the spell chain lightning while attuned to this weapon. You must wait until the following dusk to cast this spell again.

Paired Weapon. If you are attuned to both Abyssal's Edge and the Abyssal Lord's Flayer you gain a fly speed of 40 ft.

Cursed item - Death Throes. If a creature falls to 0 hit points while attuned to this weapon, the weapon explodes in a fiery blast. Each creature within 30 ft. of the wielder must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw taking 10d6 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The explosion ignites flammable objects in that area that aren't being worn or carried. The weapon is then rendered inert and becomes a normal longsword. It can be recharged by defeating a fiend of CR rating 12 or greater. If you are attuned to both Abyssal's Edge and the Abyssal Lord's Flayer, each item must be recharged by defeating a separate demon of CR 12 or greater. Alternatively, slaying a Balor will charge both weapons immediately.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
