An ominous rapier, Requiem bleeds an aura of malevolence befitting its matron goddess, Malice. The blade is long and thin, forged from an extremely dark metal that seems to drink in the light around it. Its edges are razor-sharp, perfect for precise and deadly strikes. This weapon is a perfect embodiment of the goddess Malice, a tool of darkness and despair designed to bring pain and suffering to its enemies.
Vestige (Passive). Requiem grants +1 to hit and damage.
Dark Harvest (Passive). The rapier deals an additional 1d4 necrotic damage.
Cruel Intent (Passive). Using Requiem, the Bonded gains an additional d6 necrotic damage to incapacitated enemies.
Bonding
To attune to Requiem, a rapier imbued with the essence of the disavowed goddess Malice, you must engage in a bonding ritual with the weapon. This ritual is both sinister and demanding, unfolding in three steps back to back, where the user must pass all checks in a row without failure to bond with the rapier. The aspirant must not be of Good alignment. A Good-aligned creature will take 3d10 psychic damage if attempting to bond with Requiem.
Whispers of the Damned (Wisdom Check DC 17)
You must hold Requiem and attune your mind to the tormented souls within the blade. Overcoming the whispers of despair you must prove your mental fortitude and connection to the dark essence within. A successful Wisdom check indicates you have the resilience and will to match the rapier’s malevolent nature.
Surge of Darkness (Constitution Check DC 18)
As Requiem begins to resonate with dark energy, you must endure the surge of necrotic power coursing through your body. Withstanding this energy without faltering proves your physical endurance and capacity to harness the rapier’s dark strength. A successful Constitution check indicates your body can bear the weapon’s power.
Malice’s Worth (Your Choice Check DC 20)
In the final step of the ritual, you must prove your worth to the essence of Malice herself. Through a display of your dark intent, you must persuade the rapier that you are a true vessel for its power. A successful check forms an unbreakable bond, intertwining your spirit with Requiem’s dark consciousness.
Failure to complete any stage halts the bonding process, reflecting the dark forces’ choice to reject the unworthy. The aspirant may attempt again with the next dawn, learning from their shortcomings under the watchful and unforgiving gaze of Malice. At the DMs discretion, Requiem may harm the failed aspirant. For those who succeed, the bond with Requiem is instant and eternal, a union of dark purpose and power that can only be severed by death. The rapier becomes an extension of the bearer’s will, a tool of torment and despair, and a constant reminder of the dark goddess' true malice.
