The Avarice Lyre is a beautifully crafted instrument made of dark wood and decorated with captivating golden runes and black pearls. The strings appear to be woven from threads of gold, and they emit a faint, mesmerizing hum when plucked. Despite its enchanting appearance, the lyre emanates an aura of greed and hunger, compelling those who play it to pay a hefty price for its powerful benefits.
PROPERTIES:
Greedy Harmony: When you play the Avarice Lyre, you can grant a +1d6 bonus to any attack roll or ability check to one willing creature within 60 feet that can hear its music. You can choose to use this feature any number of times, but once the bonus rolled is a 6, the lyre falls silent and cannot be played again until the next dawn. If you roll a 1, dismiss that roll and roll again.
Price of Power: Every time you use the Greedy Harmony feature, the Avarice Lyre demands a toll:
• If you have more than 1000 gold pieces, the lyre takes 50% of your current gold.
• If you have 1000 gold pieces or less, the lyre takes 50% of your current hit points (rounded down). This damage cannot be reduced or avoided in any way.
You must pay the price before rolling the dice.
CURSE:
Insatiable Appetite: The Avarice Lyre’s curse becomes evident over time. Once attuned, you cannot willingly unattune from the lyre unless you are subjected to a Remove Curse spell or similar magic. Additionally, the lyre compels you to seek wealth and power, slowly influencing your decisions and actions towards acquiring more riches, regardless of the moral or ethical implications.
LEGEND:
The Avarice Lyre is said to have been created by a powerful bard who made a pact with a fiend of greed. In exchange for unrivaled musical prowess, the bard’s soul and wealth were slowly consumed by the lyre, leaving behind only the instrument and its insatiable hunger for gold and life.
“The strings of the Avarice Lyre sing sweetly, but its melody comes at a steep price. For each note played in pursuit of greatness, the lyre demands its due, leaving only the most resolute to bask in its fleeting glory.”
