The Ring of the evil spirit.
Only 12 of these rings were ever made. They were created by a long forgotten archlich who would equip them on his death knights.
They allowed his death knights to inflict terror nearly anywhere in the universe and sometimes bring things back.
When the ring is used it glows red and the wearer becomes catatonic, however his spirit with all of its items are sent to another place, as in the astral projection spell. They are part illusion part spirit, and part real using the power of the Shadow Fell.
With these rings the archlich was able to maintain control of large regions of lands across space and time. His death knights abused the power of these rings and maintianed powerful control.

Some of his knights were severed from their bodies by angels and are doomed to wander as disembodied spirits. They still occasionally invade lands.
