This rod shaped amulet and the chain it hangs from are made from some strange dark metal that seems to sap heat away from the space, and any creatures, around it.
The five inch rod takes the shape of many inter-clasped hands grasping at each other in an upwards direction toward the top of the rod. At it's top the hands clasp around the chain on which the amulet hangs. The bottom of the rod contains a small onyx jewel contained with wires made from the same strange metal as the rest of the amulet.*
You can use this amulet as a spellcasting focus for your spells while wearing or holding it, and you gain a +1 bonus to Spell Attack Rolls and to the Saving Throw DCs of your spells.
Shadow Conduit: Whenever you would use a Hit Dice, you can instead gain 3 Sorcery Points.
Sorrowful Grasp: As an action you can summon a number of shadowy hands around your body equal to your Spellcasting Modifier. If a creature makes a Melee Attack against you, or if you use a bonus action to send one of the hands to attack a creature within 60 feet of you, the hand disappears and the creature must make a Constitution Saving Throw with a DC equal to your spell save DC or lose a Hit Dice. If the creature loses a Hit Dice, they lose health equal to the maximum roll of their Hit Dice plus their Constitution Modifier, and you gain a Hit Dice and Temporary HP equal to half the damage they took rounded down.
You can use this ability once per day. You use a 3rd level or higher spell slot to cast it again. When you use a 4th level or higher spell slot to use this ability, add an additional shadowy hand for each slot level about 3rd.
While wearing the amulet and drawing from its power, you hear incoherent, shadowy whispers at the edges of your mind. You hear them even while you sleep, and they prevent you from ever feeling fully rested. They instill in you a desperate need to keep the amulet for yourself.
Curse of Melancholy: While attuned to this item, you are cursed. While cursed in this way, you no longer gain any Hit Dice as a result of completing a long rest. In addition, you cannot willingly part with or end your attunement from the amulet.
Notes: Bonus: Spell Attacks, Bonus: Spell Save DC
