The Arca Monstrorum
Description: The Arca Monstrorum is a small, intricately carved chest made from dark, ancient wood. Its surface is adorned with the twisted, snarling faces of various beasts, each one seemingly alive with a malevolent energy. The ark is protected by divine magic, making it immune to all non-magical damage and resistant to magical damage. It cannot be destroyed by conventional means. The ark is designed to infuse round oakwood tablets with powerful magic capable of trapping monsters.
Special Properties:
- Divine Protection: Immune to non-magical and magical damage, resistant to radiant damage.
- Bonding Ritual: Requires the user to bond with the ark by sacrificing a significant amount of their own or a relative’s blood.
- Blood Demand: At every dawn, the ark demands blood to keep the monsters sealed within the tablets. If not provided immediately, the ark bites the user for 1d2 damage, it uses Dimension Door and/or Plane Shift to reach the user if necessary. If it cannot receive blood after two dawns, the monsters escape.
- Healing: When the tablets are stored within the ark, the monsters inside regain 1d20 health per hour, or full health after 1 day.
Tablets of Thorns
Description: The Tablets of Thorns are round pieces of oakwood, each one hand-carved and engraved with a symbol of thorns and stained with blood. When a monster is trapped within a tablet, it becomes engraved with the likeness of the monster. These tablets are infused with magic from the Arca Monstrorum, allowing them to trap monsters that are near defeat, by saying the word "Vincula" and facing the tablets at the monsters. Ask DM for permission.
Actions:
- Construction: New tablets can be made after long rest, but it needs 1 piece of Oakwood per tablet. Engraved with a symbol of thorns and stained with blood. Add Item "Tablet of Thorns" to inventory.
- Monster Trapping: Monsters must succeed on a DC 19 dexterity saving throw (decreasing 1 level with every 2 CR levels, DC 19 for CR 0) to avoid being trapped. If they fail, dark green thorny vines emerge from the tablet, pulling the monster inside. Delete Item "Tablet of Thorns" and add "Tablet of Thorns - Occupied" to inventory.
- Combat Release: In combat, a tablet can be broken in half and the word "Liberis" spoken to release the monster. The monster uses it's normal stat block and abilities. The monster remains under the user’s command for one hour before breaking free and fleeing. It can be recaptured without a DC save if still under command, but a new tablet is required. Only 2 releases a day, reset at dawn.
- Destruction: Tablets can only be destroyed by releasing the monster within or by placing them in magical fire, which also destroys the monster.
The tablets cannot trap these type of monsters:
- Constructs
- Fey
- Elementals
- Fiend
Plus Ultra Move (ask permission DM):
Haunted Metamorphosis:
- In the event of your character's death, the chest activates its Ultra Move. From within the chest emerges a random Thorn Tablet, containing a monster. Vines burst forth from the tablet and envelop the character's body. A dark mist surrounds the vines as the body is completely consumed. Once the process is complete, the Tablet shatters with a shockwave, pushing enemies within 10 feet away.
- Your character's soul is transferred to the random monster, becoming their new form. The character retains their Class, Background, Stats, and Abilities (except for species-specific abilities). Equipment and armor adjust to fit the new form. The character gains the strengths, weaknesses and attacktypes of the monster. If the new form lacks certain physical traits (such as arms for an archer), the character can no longer use related abilities. Discuss with your Dungeon Master to determine how this transformation fits within your character's story and the campaign.
Notes: Druid Class or Cleric Nature Domain + giving 99% of HP or relative's HP, Control, Warding, Container, transmutation
