Should this be Celsius? I mean like, 0 degrees Fahrenheit is really cold, well bellow freezing. While 0 Celsius is freezing. So - while basically a ribbon feature if it said Celsius at the very least you could say frost and ice doesn't form on your body and gear- but its still uncomfortably cold- at 0 Fahrenheit you are covered in ice and dying- but you aren't because of the ring- but if it gets 1 degree warmer- you are dying.
You say that, though it looks intentional given the wording of the old one
"While wearing this ring, you have resistance to cold damage. In addition, you and everything you wear and carry are unharmed by temperatures as low as -50 degrees Fahrenheit."
Yes. The way I read that it is saying it's protection persists till it goes lower than -50f. If it is colder it is no longer protected. The new one says it only protects you if it's 0f or lower. At 32f water is freezing and you won't survive without protection. Protection this ring should provide but won't until it's even colder. That doesn't make sense. It creates a gap where you have to worry about the cold but if it gets even colder you are fine. It makes no sense.
Yeah the second sentence makes no sense at all. Disappointing after they supposedly "combed over everything" in the new books.
The only way to run this is to just change the line completely or handwave so that you are just unharmed by low temperatures.
The reason it says 0 Fahrenheit is that this is the temperature specified in the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide below which a creature has to start making Constitution saving throws to avoid taking levels of Exhaustion. Cold environments don't have a negative effect above this temperature. This doesn't exactly match reality, but they have to draw a line somewhere.
So, the intent of this ring is that it eliminates the possibility of taking those Exhaustion levels.

I love this artwork. Those creatures look so cozy.
