Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)
This robe is adorned with eyelike patterns. While you wear the robe, you gain the following benefits:
All-Around Vision. The robe gives you Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
Special Senses. You have Darkvision and Truesight, both with a range of 120 feet.
Drawbacks. A Light spell cast on the robe or a Daylight spell cast within 5 feet of the robe gives you the Blinded condition for 1 minute. At the end of each of your turns, you make a Constitution saving throw (DC 11 for Light or DC 15 for Daylight), ending the condition on yourself on a success.
Notes: Advantage: Perception, Sense: Darkvision, Sense: Truesight
Why need darkvision if I have truesight?
For non-magical darkness, perhaps.
Darkvision lets you see normally in Dim Light, while Truesight doesn't.
If the DM is actually a stickler about Perception checks in lighting situations, this is actually relevant.
You cant cast light on an item being worn by somebody else anymore, so the only drawback is the daylight spell.
Underrated benefit of Truesight in the 2024 rules is that hiding without magic is still considered to be the invisible condition, so Truesight from this item letting you see creatures with the invisible condition means that you automatically spot anyone who isn't hiding behind total cover as soon as they're anywhere within your sightlines.
Also, I just love this item in general. It's so nice for both players and villains to bypass all the usual illusion, darkness, and shapeshifter nonsense, and it has a thematic downside that gives a use to a spell that's otherwise hard to justify. There really is nothing more satisfying than a player or villain walking up to a shapeshifter and revealing they know what they really are.
