Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement)
While holding or wearing this talisman, you have Advantage on any Intelligence (Arcana) check you make to control a Sphere of Annihilation. In addition, when you start your turn in control of a Sphere of Annihilation, you can take a Magic action to move it 10 feet plus a number of additional feet equal to 10 times your Intelligence modifier. This movement doesn’t have to be in a straight line.
Notes: Advantage: Arcana
This new Talisman of the Sphere (2024) has the property… “When you start your turn in control of a Sphere of Annihilation, you can take a Magic action to move it 10 feet plus a number of additional feet equal to 10 times your Intelligence modifier.”
However the updated Sphere of Annihilation (2024) states… “If you are within 60 feet of a sphere, you can take a Magic action to make a DC 25 Intelligence (Arcana) check. On a successful check, you control the sphere until the start of your next turn.”
This would seem to suggest that control is lost at the start of the next turn and therefore it’s not actually possible to start one’s turn in control of a Sphere, so how would the above property of the Talisman ever be used? This seems to have been designed with the old version of the Sphere in mind.
Suggestion: Re-write this property to read “While in control of a Sphere of Annihilation, you can take a Bonus Action to move it 10 feet plus a number of additional feet equal to 10 times your Intelligence modifier. This movement doesn’t have to be in a straight line.”
This would provide the intended movement enhancement in line with the updated Sphere mechanics.
Correct, this is bugged, and needed updating when the new sphere was updated.
it'd be better if it were
"While holding or wearing this talisman, you have Advantage on any Intelligence (Arcana) check you make to control a Sphere of Annihilation, and your control of it lasts until the end of your next turn, rather than the start of your next turn. In addition, as part of your Magic action to control the Sphere of Annihilation or as a bonus action while you are in control of it, you can move it 10 feet plus a number of additional feet equal to 10 times your Intelligence modifier. This movement doesn’t have to be in a straight line."
