Weapon (longsword), artifact (requires attunement by a Creature of the Weapon's Choice)

Ala'ir, the Rimeblade is an ancient blade of elven craft, called a Moonblade, crafted over two millennia ago for Rai'syr Elros. The blade is forged from Lunythril, a type of mythril exposed to the harshest of winters, and tempered with the breath of the Star Dragon, Vigil. After the death of Rai'syr, the blade inherited his powerful will as its own, and longs for a wielder that it believes best embodies that will.

If you try to attune to this weapon, and it doesn’t want you as its bearer, the weapon not only rejects you but also places a curse on you, causing you to make all ability checks, attack rolls and saving throws with Disadvantage for 24 hours or until the curse is ended by a Remove Curse spell or similar magic. If you’re accepted by the weapon and try to attune to it, you become attuned to it instantly, and a new rune appears on it. You remain attuned to the weapon until you die or the weapon is destroyed. This weapon functions like a nonmagical weapon of its kind for anyone other than its chosen bearer.

The sword has a long, slightly curved, single-sided blade of sapphire hue engraved with 14 runes, and radiates an aura of frost. The scabbard is decorated with cut diamond and star-sapphire. Carved in elegant elven script along the scabbard are the words "The purpose of the strong is to protect the weak."

You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. This weapon gains the Finesse and Light weapon properties while attuned to.

Cold Edge. When you hit with an attack roll using this weapon, the target takes an extra 3d6 Cold damage. Additionally, this weapon scores a Critical Hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on a D20 Test.

North Wind. This weapon has the Thrown property with a normal range of 20 feet and a long range of 60 feet. Each time you throw the weapon, it flies back to your hand after the attack.

Spellwrought Blade. This weapon can act as a Spellcasting Focus for any spellcaster attuned to it, and has the properties of a Ring of Spell Storing.

Everfrost. Once per day, when you make a damage roll that deals Cold damage, you can instead use the highest number possible for each damage die.

Permeating Frost. While attuned to this weapon, you ignore Resistance to Cold damage. Additionally, you have Immunity to Cold damage and Resistance to Fire damage.

Destroying Ala'ir, the Rimeblade. Ala'ir can only be destroyed by a betrayal of its bearer. If the bearer attempts to use the sword for an act of evil, such as slaying an innocent, the sword will immediately end its attunement with the bearer and shatter, attempting to destroy its bearer in the process. The bearer takes 1d10 Cold damage for every rune that alights the blade, and every spell stored in it. If the Everfrost property has not been used yet, Ala'ir will use it as part of this shattering. After it has been shattered, Ala'ir will magically reform after 3 days before a bearer it deems worthy on this plane of existence.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
