Weapon (greatsword), artifact (requires attunement)

This straight greatsword has simple designs, but at the base of the blade it is jagged, and the hilt is golden. A dark garnet is set in the pommel. The kong (king) rune is etched into the guard. This greatsword was fashioned by stone giant smith Gereltok for the rightful queen of the Caves of Irikhan, Danid Slateaxe and her battle against the Dragon Queen.

Behavior. The sword hums gently when one of royal blood is within 60 feet of it, requiring a DC 20 Perception check by one holding it to notice.

Dormant

The sword grants the following benefits in its dormant state:

  • The sword has a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.
  • Your maximum hit points are increased by a number equal to your level.
  • As a bonus action, you can shout a bolstering cry to spend and roll a hit die. When you do, a friendly creature that can hear you within 60 feet of you regains hit points equal to the number rolled.

Awakened

When the sword reaches an awakened state, it gains the following properties:

  • The attack and damage roll bonus of the sword increases to +2.
  • If you are a creature of royal blood or are sworn to the service of one, the sword glows with the molten heat of the earth while wielded, casting dim light out to a radius of 15 feet and dealing an additional 1d6 fire damage on a hit.
  • As long as you have less than half your hit dice remaining, you have advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws while wielding the sword.
  • When you heal a creature in combat using the sword's Dormant feature, that creature also gains temporary hit points equal to the roll.

Exalted

When the sword reaches an exalted state, it gains the following properties:

  • The attack and damage roll bonus of the sword increases to +3.
  • If you are a creature of royal blood or are sworn to the service of one, the maximum hit point bonus increases to 2 per level.
  • When you hit a dragon with the sword, the dragon takes an extra 3d6 slashing damage. For the purpose of this weapon, "dragon" refers to any creature with the dragon type, including dragon turtles and wyverns.
  • As a bonus action, you can unleash an emboldening battle cry. You and up to four other creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you that can hear you can use their reactions to move up to half their speed and make a weapon attack or cast a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action. Any attacks made this way have advantage. Once you use this trait, you can't do so again until the next dawn.

Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
