Gnomish artisans are famous for this unique form of magical jewelry that comes to life as a familiar. Their intricate clockwork mechanisms are animated by magic making them marvels of a marriage of engineering and the arcane. They take many forms including necklaces in the shape of snakes, brooches resembling hummingbirds and cuff earnings in the shape of tiny dragons. They are accompanied by a set of googles that cover both the eyes and ears.
These tiny creations are not useful in combat as they are fragile (AC 10; HP 1) and cannot make attacks. However, they can be effective spies. Upon speaking the name of the construct while holding it, the bearer may speak a brief command (e.g., crawl under that door, look around, and come back to me) and then release it. The construct will perform the command to the best of its ability, but will also avoid danger unless specifically told not to. While performing its duty, the bearer can see and hear through the construct's eyes and ears if they are also wearing the goggles. This ability can be turned off and on at will as a bonus action. After 1 hour of activity, the construct deactivates and will remain dormant for 8 hours.
Notes: Wearing the jewelry while taking a long rest causes the bearer to have a dream about the construct. In the dream, it is a real creature and must be befriended by making a successful DC 10 Animal Handling check. If successful, the creature will reveal its name. If unsuccessful another attempt may be made at the next long rest.
