Armor (plate), artifact

Visual Description of the Armor “Aegis of the Depths” The Aegis of the Depths is an armor forged from mithril and adamantine, with a deep silvery hue, slightly shadowed as if it were sculpted from the very mist of the abyss. The armor seems almost alive, like an extension of its wearer’s soul, and its dark silvery color captures the light in a strange way, giving it a subtle but refined glow. Dark blue streaks, resembling veins of light, snake across the armor, softly illuminating certain spots with each movement of the wearer. These lines are not constant but appear and disappear, like forgotten stars or residual energy from ancient powers. When touched by light, they seem to animate, creating a mystical and soothing glow. The armor is crafted with exceptional refinement, yet there are no visible external ornaments. No magical runes are visible, as they are carefully concealed beneath the inner padding. These secret inscriptions are meant to be discovered only by the rightful wearer, and their power remains hidden from anyone else. It adjusts perfectly to the body of its user, as though it is a part of them, molding to their size, shape, and every contour in an almost organic way. No one else can wear this armor unless the wearer willingly gives it up or passes away, for a powerful magical bond has been forged between the armor and the one who donned it.

History:

  1. The Story of the Armor of the Ménirs In ancient times, long before Faerûn was inhabited by known peoples, the Ménirs, an ancient race of Aarakocra, thrived on the continent. Their civilization was marked by profound wisdom and a sacred connection with celestial forces. As protectors of the world, the Ménirs were constantly searching for ways to defend Faerûn against supernatural threats. The Ménirs had mastered the art of working with rare and powerful metals, but their quest for perfection in armament and magical protections led them to secret experiments. Their greatest achievement was a forge hidden in the mountains of Havren, shielded from the eyes of others. There, they worked for centuries, striving to create the ultimate armor: an armor that would not only be of unmatched lightness but also of magical power beyond measure. The armor in question, known as Aegis of the Depths, was forged from a perfect fusion of adamantine, mithril, and other unknown magical metals. Its lightness and resilience surpassed anything seen before. But the armor was never meant to be worn by just any mortal. The Ménirs, understanding that raw power alone would not suffice, crafted a complex enchantment: the armor could only be removed from the forge if it found a worthy bearer.

  2. Once forged, the armor was immediately protected by enchantments of colossal power. Magic doors sealed the forge, preventing anyone from leaving with a creation of the forge, including the armor itself. These protections were reinforced with spells of detection, concealment, and protection. The armor remained hidden from the eyes of all, a nearly forgotten legend. Only a being worthy of its power could break these protections and claim it. Over the centuries, the Ménirs mysteriously disappeared, and with their fall, the forge was lost to time. However, the enchantments protecting the forge remained in place. It is only recently that a group of miners in Havren, while exploring forgotten tunnels, stumbled upon the entrance to this long-lost forge. There, the players discover the armor, still waiting to be worn by a worthy bearer. This story can evolve depending on the actions of the group. For example, the armor could test the courage, integrity, or honor of the potential wearer. If the character chooses to don it, the armor could grant them a form of “connection” with the Ménirs or other powers tied to their race, while staying true to its history.

Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
