Being made from the chitinous exoskeleton of the Ankheg is what gives this armor its green tint. The armor is very nearly as effective as half plate armor but weighs considerably less and could be worn by warriors who usually couldn't wear such heavy armor. Monsters come and go but fatigue from moving around in heavy armor is a constant enemy, as any world-weary adventurer will tell you.
Ankheg chitin is a light, flexible material but as strong as metal. If the armor normally imposes disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks or has a Strength requirement, the Ankheg shell version of the armor doesn't.
Half plate consists of shaped metal plates that cover most of the wearer's body. It does not include leg protection beyond simple greaves that are attached with leather straps.
