Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement by a a Paladin or Cleric aligned with Bahamut)
Description:
This amulet, crafted from a shard of Bahamut’s own essence, gleams with the soft glow of platinum light. Its surface bears an engraving of a dragon’s open maw, emitting an eternal silver flame. Its powers manifest as a shield against the corruption of infernal realms.
Abilities:
-
Aura of Sanctified Light
- While attuned to this amulet, the bearer exudes a 10-foot radius of radiant light that pierces through magical darkness. Any fiend within this aura has disadvantage on saving throws against effects that turn or banish fiends.
- Allies within the aura are immune to being frightened or possessed by fiends.
-
Platinum Dragon’s Wrath (Recharge: Long Rest)
- As an action, you may invoke the might of Bahamut, unleashing a radiant wave in a 60-foot radius sphere centered on you. Fiends in the area must make a DC 18 Charisma saving throw, taking 4d10 radiant damage on a failure, or half as much on a success. Creatures reduced to 0 hit points by this effect are obliterated and leave no physical remains.
-
Divine Bastion (2 Charges)
- When you or an ally within 30 feet is targeted by an attack or harmful effect, you may expend a charge as a reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll or grant the target advantage on the saving throw. The amulet regains all charges at dawn.
-
Hellbound Suppression
- The bearer of the amulet can sense the presence of fiends within 300 feet, as if by the spell detect evil and good. Fiends within 10 feet of the bearer have their resistances to radiant damage suppressed and cannot regain hit points by any means.
Platinum Annihilation (Single Use)
- In the most desperate of moments, the bearer can unleash the amulet's full power, calling upon Bahamut's divine essence to purge the area. As an action, the bearer creates a 100-foot radius sphere of indestructible holy fire centered on themselves. This conflagration deals 20d10 radiant damage to all creatures in the area except celestials, which are unaffected. Fiends in the area must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute after taking damage.
- Once this ability is used, the amulet shatters, and its blessing upon the bearer is permanently withdrawn. The bearer is cursed:
- Their soul is forever marked by Bahamut’s wrath for the reckless destruction caused by unleashing such power. They gain vulnerability to radiant damage and are unable to benefit from healing magic that isn't cast by a celestial being or a divine servant of Bahamut.
- The bearer is also haunted by visions of Bahamut’s disapproval, causing them to suffer disadvantage on Insight and Persuasion checks until they atone through a quest of immense peril, such as sealing a planar rift or defeating Tiamat.
Additional Properties:
- Sentience: The amulet carries a fragment of Bahamut’s consciousness and can BRIEFLY communicate with its bearer. It offers a short word of guidance. Its voice is calm, but firm.
- Destroying the Artifact: The Amulet of the Platinum Vanguard can only be destroyed by casting it into the fires of Mount Celestia’s seventh peak, where Bahamut himself will judge its fate.
