A longsword of hollow crystal, mist swirls in hypnotizing patterns inside hinting at shapes and forms but never revealing them. Malice is a weapon born of the mists of Barovia and crafted by its master to reap the harvest of undead souls that proliferate the realm and renew the cycle of rebirth. This weapon is extraordinarily lightweight. As such it has the finesse weapon property in addition to being a versatile magic longsword.
Mist Sight
While you hold the weapon, you are aware of the presence of Tiny or larger undead creatures within 60 feet of you and the Mist does not obscure your vision of undead creatures you can sense.
Devour Undead
Whenever you use it to reduce an undead creature to 0 hit points, the sword slays the creature and devours its soul. A creature whose soul has been devoured by Malice can be restored to unlife only by a wish spell.
When it devours a soul, Malice grants you +1 temporary wisdom attribute points (25 WIS Maximum). These temporary attribute points fade after a long rest.
If you hit a humanoid creature with this weapon, the weapon passes through harmlessly as it makes contact and you take 2d4 psychic damage. If this damage reduces you to 0 hit points, your soul enters Malice. Your soul can be freed from the blade only by a wish spell. As long as your soul is in the sword, you can telepathically communicate with any creature wielding it.
Infusion of the Mists
As the wielder of Malice slays undead, new powers are unlocked as their wisdom score grows
- At 15 WIS: The wielder can summon the mist by casting Fog Cloud at will
- At 17 WIS : The wielder adds +1 to attack and damage rolls with Malice
- At 19 WIS: The wielder can cast Misty Step at will
- At 21 WIS: The blade seeps jagged whisps of mist in its wake, extending the [wprop]reach[wprop] of the weapon to 10 feet
- At 23 WIS: The wielder can cast Blink at will
- At 25 WIS: The jagged whisps harden into a long jagged blade. All attacks deal an additional 2d6 Psychic Damage
Dark Hunger
Each time the wielder exceeds a wisdom score of 20, drawing power beyond the limits of mortal flesh, the wielder must make a Constitution saving throw (DC varies) or suffer 2d4 Psychic damage. If this Psychic damage reduces you to 0 hit points, your soul enters Malice. Your soul can be freed from the blade only by a wish spell. As long as your soul is in the sword, you can telepathically communicate with any creature wielding it.
- At 21: DC 14
- At 22: DC 15
- At 23: DC 16
- At 24: DC 17
- At 25: DC 18
