This item first appears to be a pile of wooden rubble, with a pletera of metal windings and, beams, gears, plates and rods. On a sucessfull DC15 investigation check, the control panel, consisting of 10 levers can be found. If any is pulled with it is in it's rubble state, the apparatus will start to shake, and in 1 minute it's pieces will be pulled by the metal windings into place, gears fitting together, rods attaching to eachother to form joints, slowly forming a tall bypedal construct, consisting of only two wooden legs with metal reinforcements, a control platform with a chair and the control pannel, a powerfull steam engine mounted on the back of the platform with a small chimeny emmited a high pressure exhaust and a autocannon mounted on a double axis swivel attached on the bottom of the platfor. The apparatus of the Ostrich is a Large object with the following statistics:
Armor Class: 11
Hit Points: 60
Speed: 40 ft. in bypedal mode, 20ft. in flight mode, 10ft in burrow mode
Damage Immunities: poison, psychic
Damage vulnerabilities: fire
Siege machine. The aparatures deals double damage to structures and objects.
In order to be used as a vehicle, a creature must seated in the control platform, counting as it's pilot. When attacking the pilot, a creature can choose to target either the aparatus or it's pilot, as each have diferent HP and AC values. A creature in the pilot position can use an action to move as many as two of the apparatus's levers up or down. After each use, a lever goes back to its neutral position. Each lever, from left to right, functions as shown in the Apparatus of the Turtle Levers table.
Apparatus of the Ostrich Levers
| Lever | Up | Down |
| 1 | The aparatus will performs a 60 feet longjump foward, dealing 1d20 damage to creatures in the position it lands in. |
Legs detach from the platform and a set of wings extend from the left and right side of the platform, putting it in flight mode. This lever is inoperable until the legs are reattached |
| 2 | Drenches the soil in a 5 feet radius of the apparatus in oil, making it dificult terrain, and sparks it on fire, making any creature in it take 1d12 fire damage until they exit it. |
If in flight mode, detaches the wings, making it fall to the ground and extends a set of 8 shovels on a wheel in both sides, putting it in burrow mode. This lever is innoperable until the wings are reattached |
| 3 | The platform's shutters open | The platform's shutters close, the pilot now counts as under full cover but is now blinded until reopened |
| 4 | Opens the exaust valves, allowing the chimney to emmit exaust smoke. While open, the aparatus has a -8 to stealth rolls. | Closes the exaust valves to the chimney, acumulating boiler exaust in the buffer. The buffer can store 3 turns worth of exhaust, otherwise it will rupture and deal 2d10 damage to the aparatus and disable this lever. |
| 5 | Ejects the chimney and buffer, increasing the aparatus speed by 5 feet, -8 to stealth rolls and disabling this lever, until reatached using blacksmith or thinker tools | Releases built up exhaust in the buffer, making the air in a [5x(turns worth of exhaust store)] unbreathable for 1d4 turns and giving creatures in that area -2 to perception. |
| 6 | The apparatus walks up to 40ft forward. | The apparatus walks up to 40ft backward. |
| 7 | The apparatus turns 90 degrees left. | The apparatus turns 90 degrees right. |
| 8 |
Raises the appartus altitude by 10 ft. If it was burrowed, it emerges at 0 altitude, dealing 1d12 bludgeoning damage to creatures in the position where it emerged and forcing them to roll a dexterity check to not fall prone. |
Lowers the apparatus altitude by 10 ft.. If it is bellow 0, it is now considered burrowed and cannot be attacked. |
| 9 |
Fires a explosive round from cannon at a point within 60 feet. Anything within 5 feet of that point takes 1d10+10 fire damage. |
Fires a spray of brass bullets from the cannon directed at any point within 30 feet. In a cone from the construct to the point, any creature in it not behind cover will take 1d12x4 piercing damage |
|
10 |
|
Ignites a bomb inside the engine. In the next round, the apparatus will be destroyed and deal 3d20 damage to any creature within 5 feet of the explosion |
Note: The chimeny, legs and wings can be reattached to the apparatus using tinker's tools out of combat. Unlike the apparatus of the crab and of the turtle, this apparatus does not fully encase it's pilot, so the pilot can exit it freely and use ranged attacks or spells from it.
