As a bonus action you can tap on the front of this seemingly normal bracer to have it expand into a shield leaving your hand free to hold items.

You can also retract the shield by tapping on its face as a object interaction.

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
