Weapon (greatsword), very rare (requires attunement by a This item binds to the soul of the user. It will not allow anyone else to wield it.)

As use of this blade grows, it begins to feed upon your enemies every time you score a critical hit.  Keep a running total of the gross damage the user inflicts while using this blade.

After 50,100,200,400,800, 1600 etc cumulative critical damage has been done, the blade grows a new rune selected from the list below.  A bonus action is required to activate a rune.  At 5th level the wielder can activate 2 runes at once.  At 10th they can activate 3 runes.  At 15th they can activate 4 runes.  At 20th they can activate all runes in a single bonus action.

  • Haste - Once per short rest gain an additional attack during your attack action.  Lasts for a number of turns equal to the # of runes on the blade.  This rune can be gained multiple times.
  • Pain - Once per short rest you can add your proficiency bonus to your damage for a number of rounds equal to the # of runes on the blade.  This rune can be gained multiple times.
  • Hunger - Once per short rest upon a successful melee attack with the blade the wielder can add a number of health back equal to the damage done in that attack.  This rune can be gained multiple times.
  • Deflection - Once per short rest the user can add their proficiency bonus to the base armor class for a number of rounds equal to the # of runes on the blade.  This rune can be gained multiple times.
  • Sundering - Once per Long rest the user can declare a sundering attack, which removes all armor protection that isn't either Dex or Dodge based, as the weapon seems to cleave through their defenses like butter.  This effect last for a single round for all attacks with this weapon.
  • Devastation - Once per long rest the wielder can declare a single hit from it to be at maximum damage.  This can be used on critical attacks.  Use is declared after a successful melee attack.  This rune can be gained multiple times.
  • Crippling - Once per Long rest the user gains the ability to use sneak damage as per the ability of a rogue.  This does NOT stack with a rogues existing ability.  The effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to the number of runes upon the blade.
  • Bleeding - Once per short rest the user of this blade may cause bleed damage equal to the users proficiency bonus.  The bleeding lasts a number of rounds equal to the number of runes upon the blade.
  • Inevitability - Once per long rest the user of this blade can overcome ANY form of resistance, immunity, invulnerability, damage reduction, or other protection from damage inflicted by the blade.  This effect last for a single round for all attacks with this weapon.
  • Seeking - Once per short rest the user can activate this rune to cause a single attack that would normally miss a creature to instead strike it.  This rune can be gained multiple times.
  • Sweeping - Once per short rest the user can activate this rune to make a grand sweeping attack against all adjacent enemies who are also adjacent to each other.  Make single attack role and compare the total to the armor class of all enemies.  This rune can be gained multiple times.
  • Fire/Frost/Acid/Poison/Lightning ( pick one ) - Once per short rest the user can activate this rune and gain an elemental damage effect equal to their proficiency bonus.  This lasts for all attacks during a single round.  This rune can be gained multiple times, each time it can enable another user of the current element chosen or give access to a new element.
  • Bonding - The user gains the ability to store the blade within their very soul.  The user can call  the blade forth from their soul as a bonus action and it appears in their hand.  It requires a separate bonus action to once again store the blade.

If anyone other than the attuned and bonded user attempts to use this weapon, they are at disadvantage on all attacks and also take a 2d6 damage per round that they hold it.  This damage is added the to critical total need for runes.  The blade is VERY particular whom it allows to hold it.

If the user rolls a natural 1 on any attack roll ( and cant modify it away with specials, advantage, etc ) with this weapon there is a chance that is can shatter.  After a roll of a 1, roll another d20.  If this roll  is also a 1, the blade shatters and unleashes all power stored within all of the runes.  Everyone within 5' per # of runes on the blade takes damage equal to 4d6 times the number of runes ( example - 3 runes when shattered would equal 12d6 damage to everyone with 15 feet ) with a Con save DC equal to 8 + user Str Bonus + user proficiency bonus dc for half damage.  The user is immediately reduced to 0 hit points and dying ( they take no damage from the shattering itself ), as their soul is literally rent asunder by the power of the blade.  Even if the user survives this terrible experience they will be forever haunted by the horrific damage to their soul.

There are rumors that some have found a method to regain thier soul blade after it was shattered through dark pacts with less that trustworthy beings of immense power.

Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.

Notes: This item binds to the soul of the user. It will not allow anyone else to wield it., Heavy, Two-Handed, Graze
