Weapon (whip), artifact (requires attunement by a bearer who has harmed the previous wielder.)

The Maiden of Pain, Loviatar, teaches us that pain is a most powerful and sacred sensation. And should our pain delight her—should we embrace such a gift—she will grant her most sacred of blessings.

In pain and suffering we give and take. Alleviation can only be obtained through suffering, as such only those who have maimed, injured, killed, or otherwise punished the previous wielder to Loviatar's standards may attune to the item. If the item is given freely or sold Loviatar may take back her artifact.

Sundeth was given Alleviation, a whip encompassing hurt and torture. In the hands of her chosen the whip feeds the Patroness of Tortures with the suffering of both the wielder and the recipient of its guile.

Whip of Suffering. Loviatar’s whip seethes with enervating energy. This magic whip grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it. When you hit with an attack using this whip, the target takes an extra 2d8 necrotic damage and you regain hit points equal to half the amount of necrotic damage dealt.

Additionally, when you make an attack with the whip on your turn, you can increase the range of the attack to 300 feet. This property of the weapon can’t be used again until the next dusk.

Blessing of the Pain. If you are a worshiper of Loviatar, you gain all the following benefits depending on your devotion and the acknowledgment of Loviatar herself:

Worshiping. While attuned to the artifact, you are physically ill and have disadvantage on any ability check or saving throw that uses Strength or Constitution.—a burden Loviatar imposes to test her faithful.

Loviatar's Favored: You have shown your dedication to pain, whether that be unto yourself or others. Your skin hardens, excited to endure more suffering. While attuned to the artifact, your Constitution increases by 2, to a maximum of 24.

Chosen of Loviatar. You draw ecstasy from pain, and have been acknowledged by Loviatar herself. Your mortal body can enjoy pain indefinitely, While attuned to the artifact, you regain 1d6 hit points at the start of your turn if you have at least 1 hit point.

For the unfaithful, beware Loviatar's love.

The Whip Demands. If the attuned creature does not actively worship Loviatar, they suffer the following effect—this information is not revealed when identifying or attuning to the item.

While attuned, your body painlessly decays over four days before stabilizing:

  • Day 1: You lose your hair.
  • Day 2: You lose your fingertips and toe tips.
  • Day 3: You lose your lips and nose.
  • Day 4: You lose your ears.

This decay has no mechanical effects. Lost body parts can only be restored by a regenerate spell or intervention from a power greater than Loviatar herself.

Proficiency with a Whip allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Slow. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. If the creature is hit more than once by weapons that have this property, the Speed reduction doesn’t exceed 10 feet.

Notes: Bonus: Magic, Damage: Necrotic, bearer who has harmed the previous wielder., Damage, Combat, Finesse, Reach, Slow
