Attunement Description
To attune to the Aegis of the Unbroken Oath, the wielder must swear an unbreakable vow before a consecrated altar of Vaalen. This oath must be a binding promise—to protect the innocent, uphold justice, or stand as an unyielding bastion against chaos. Should the wielder break their vow, the shield instantly loses its magic, becoming nothing more than finely crafted steel until atonement is made.
Description
The Aegis of the Unbroken Oath is a masterfully crafted kite shield, forged from adamantine alloy infused with celestial light. Golden inlays form intricate geometric patterns across its gleaming surface, pulsing faintly with divine energy. The central emblem—a lion with wings—radiates unwavering resolve, its eyes set with glowing sapphire gemstones that seem to judge all who stand before it.
According to legend, this shield was once wielded by Seraphin the Immortal, a paladin so devoted to his oath that even death could not claim him. For centuries, the shield bore witness to countless battles, standing as an indestructible bulwark against darkness. When Seraphin fell in battle against the forces of chaos, his soul was bound within the shield, whispering words of encouragement and judgment to its next wielder.
Those who wield the Aegis of the Unbroken Oath find themselves strengthened by an unshakable conviction, their will as unyielding as the mountains.
Abilities
Sentinel’s Resolve (Passive)
While attuned to this shield, you gain advantage on saving throws against being charmed, frightened, or stunned.
Bulwark of Faith (Reaction, 3/Long Rest)
When a creature within 10 feet of you would be hit by an attack, you may intercept the blow, reducing the damage by 4d10 + your Constitution modifier. If this reduces the damage to 0, the attacker must make a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone from the impact.
Aegis Rebirth (Triggered Ability, 1/Long Rest)
If you would be reduced to 0 hit points, the shield releases a burst of divine energy, restoring you to 1 hit point and granting temporary hit points equal to your level + Constitution modifier. Additionally, all creatures within 10 feet must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of their next turn.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
