Wondrous Item (Ring), Uncommon
This peculiar, otherworldly ring pulses with an ever-changing glow. Its surface is adorned with cryptic symbols that shift and change depending on the environment around it. The Alien Ring seems to respond to the wearer’s emotions, needs, or the situation they are in, adapting in strange and unpredictable ways.
The Alien Ring shifts its appearance and powers based on the wearer’s current situation, granting one of the following benefits at random. The effect lasts for 1 hour or until the situation changes:
-
Battleform: In combat, the ring’s design sharpens, and it grants a +1 bonus to AC while worn. Additionally, after a successful hit on an enemy, the wearer can make an immediate Bonus Action to deal an extra 1d4 damage of the type that corresponds to the enemy’s weakness (as determined by the DM).
-
Healing Bloom: The ring’s surface glows with green energy, and it provides the wearer with advantage on any saving throws to resist poison or disease. If the wearer receives healing, the amount healed increases by an extra 1d4.
-
Vision of Clarity: The symbols on the ring shift to a deep purple hue. The wearer gains Darkvision for 60 feet, or if they already have Darkvision, the range is extended by 30 feet. Additionally, they can see invisible creatures or objects within 10 feet of them.
-
Speed Surge: The ring flickers with bursts of energy. For the duration of the effect, the wearer’s movement speed increases by 10 feet, and they can Dash as a Bonus Action.
- Camouflage: The ring adapts to its surroundings, making the wearer harder to detect. As a Bonus Action, the wearer can activate the ring to blend into their environment, granting them Advantage on Stealth checks for 1 hour. The effect ends early if the wearer makes an attack or casts a spell.
- Fall’s Grace: When falling, the wearer slows their descent, reducing any falling damage by half. Additionally, they can use their reaction to reduce their falling speed to 0, preventing any fall damage altogether. This ability can be used once per day.
Cursed Variant – Unpredictable Force
Once attuned, the Alien Ring becomes bound to its wearer. While attuned to the ring, the wearer cannot willingly remove it, and if they try to do so, they must make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw to break the bond. If the saving throw is failed, the wearer suffers 1d6 psychic damage and the ring regains its hold on them, making it more difficult to remove.
There are rumors that, in the rarest cases, the Alien Ring can become unstable. In such cases, it may change randomly without the wearer’s control, leading to unintended effects. If this happens, the ring might grant a negative effect (DM’s choice) at the start of every day until the wearer manages to attune to the ring once more.
