Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement)

This nefarious magical amulet grants those that attune to it the following ability:

Gift of the Kenku. The wearer gains the skill of perfect mimicry. You can accurately mimic sounds you have heard, including voices. A creature that hears the sounds you make can tell they are imitations only with a successful Wisdom (Insight) check against a DC of 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier. You also gain proficiency in deception and persuasion upon attunement.

Cursed. This cursed item has the following affects to those attuned to it:

  • Whispers of the Kenku: Whenever the wielder takes a long rest, they must make a DC 10 Wisdom Save. If they succeed, they do not experience the effects of the curse, but the DC increases in difficulty +1. On a failed saved, the wearer hears the murmurs of voices repeating conversations from the past. Sometimes, these whispers reveal secrets—but more often, they whisper madness and regret. The wearer takes 1d6 psychic damage reducing their HP total for the next day after completing their long rest. After failing the save, the DC reverts back to a DC 10 for the next long rest.
  • Curse Progression: The longer the item is wielded, the more the curse takes hold. After every 3 failed saves the psychic damage dice increases to the next largest dice. After 12 failed saves, the wearer is gripped with madness and finds themselves speaking only in stolen voices, unable to use their true voice at all. Their HP maximum is permanently reduced by whatever is rolled on the d20 of psychic damage and the only way to reverse the effects at this point is via the wish spell. If the wearer's HP is reduced to 0 due to the curse, they die.
