Weapon (shortbow), rare

This arrow is a hypodermic arrow, featuring a silver-tipped glass syringe head designed to inject a liquid upon impact. While it can technically be emptied and refilled with any substance, the Arrow of Verdant Pyre is usually found pre-filled with a virulent, eldritch toxin derived from Drow poison, corrupted by the unnatural energy of the Green Flame.

On a hit, the target takes 1d4 piercing damage and must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw. Every 10 minutes, the target must repeat the DC 13 Constitution saving throw. If they succeed on six consecutive saves, the poison is fully resisted, and no further effects occur.

On a failure, the target is poisoned and progresses through the following effects:

Blood Frenzy

At the start of each turn, the target must make a DC 13 Charisma saving throw. On a failure, the target uncontrollably attacks the nearest creature. On a success, the target regains control over its actions for that turn.

The target takes 2d6 necrotic damage per minute as the poison spreads unnaturally through the veins, and its body begins to warp and shift.

The toxin remains in the target's body until actively cured and does not fade naturally over time. Short or long rests do not remove the poison.

Mutation Threshold

After 5 hours of being poisoned: The target undergoes an irreversible transformation. The exact nature of the mutation remains unknown, but those who experience it are never the same.

Additional Properties:

  • Fragile Construction: Like all Hypodermic Arrows, this arrow shatters upon impact, regardless of whether it hits or misses.
  • Removable Poison: The toxin can be extracted from an unbroken arrow and stored for separate use.

Proficiency with a Shortbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
