Chains of the Blood Rite

The iron bites, the blood flows, and the pact is sealed. Pain is the key, and through it, the Old Ways awaken.

A chained tome, unlocked, written in a script lost to time. An athame, with sigils etched in a silvered blade. Jagged iron spikes, permanently stained with the blood of the blood hunter who performed the binding ritual, imbedding in the flesh. Created from the lifeblood of the blood hunter, The Chains of the Blood Rite serves as a focus for the their magic, amplifying their blood curses, rituals, and the manipulation of life force. While it is a potent and personal focus, it also serves as a reminder of the price of power, as its sharp edges and blood-soaked surface symbolize the painful pact between the caster and the dark forces they command. The Chains of the Blood Rite is carried as a symbol of mastery over their own blood and a key to unlocking the latent powers hidden within their veins.

While attuned to this item, you gain a bonus of +1 to melee attacks, spell attacks, and your Hemocraft DC.

Spellcasting. At 3rd level, you gain access to 1st level spells. This item acts as your spellcasting focus and spells that require material components can use this in substitution. If there is a cost associated with the material component, you can taking necrotic damage equal to one roll of your hemocraft die equal to the spell level. You can prepare a number of spells equal to their Hemocraft modifier plus half your blood hunter level. The DM has final say on spells available to you. 

Spell save DC = Hemocraft DC (8 + your proficiency bonus + your Hemocraft modifier)

Spell attack modifier  = your proficiency bonus + Hemocraft modifier

This item has 3 charges. It regains 1d4 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn. You can expend 1 charge to cast a spell at 1st level. (E.g. bless at 1st level, expends 1 charge.)

You can cast hex at 1st level without expending a charge.
