Staff, artifact (requires attunement by a by a Spellcaster)

Forged from the crystallized echoes of lost souls, green-hued orbs of mistbound divinity, and the very essence of Aranaidas’ dominion, this artifact is more than a staff—it is an extension of the will of the King in the Fog.

The staff is never held—it floats beside its master, an ever-present sentinel of mist and control.
It is bound to its wielder. None may take it, none may separate it, and none may wield it without offering themselves to the mist.
To attune to this staff is to hear the whispers of the King in the Fog, an ever-present voice offering insight, temptation, and guidance.

Passive Effects

  • Mind of the Mistlord: While attuned to the staff, you gain +3 bonus to Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws and checks, and you have advantage on all rolls using those abilities.
  • Sentient Connection: The staff communicates telepathically with the wielder, offering knowledge, tactics, and persuasion—sometimes in whispers, sometimes in overwhelming revelations.
  • Veil of the Mist: You are permanently surrounded by a 15-foot radius mist, which you can thicken or thin at will, but never dissipate completely.
    • While within your mist, you have half-cover (+2 AC and Dexterity saving throws).
    • You cannot be surprised by any creature within your mist.
    • As an action, you may expand the mist to a 45-foot radius.

"All things lost to the mist are mine to know."

The Omniscience of the Mist

You are aware of all creatures within your mist at all times. You do not need sight or sound—you simply know.
Whenever a creature enters your mist, Detect Thoughts is cast upon them automatically.

  • You have advantage on the saving throw if contested.
  • If you are Aranaidas or one chosen by him, this is an automatic success.
Creatures with an Intelligence score below 18 feel either awe or terror in your presence, depending on their alignment.

"Your thoughts are mine before you even speak them."

Legendary Charges & Abilities (Holds 12 charges, regaining 1d6+3 at dawn.)

Once per long rest, you may cast one of the following spells without expending a spell slot:

  • Foresight (to peer beyond time itself)
  • Weird (to break the minds of those unworthy)
  • Danse Macabre (to command the dead with absolute will)

Twice per short rest, you may cast one of the following spells without expending a spell slot:

  • Create Undead (to enslave those who have perished)
  • Raise Undead (to mold the lifeless into your will’s extension)

You always know when someone is lying to you, and the staff whispers the best response to fulfill your goals.

You may cast and maintain a permanent Telepathic Bond without requiring concentration or knowing the spell.

"The words you speak are nothing. I know what lurks beneath them."

The Living Mist

You regenerate 5% of your maximum HP every hour while inside your mist, but cannot exceed your hit point maximum.
If you enter a naturally misty area, your staff’s fog merges with it, and all effects granted by the mist extend to the full area covered.
Your mist cannot be dispelled, only countered by divine intervention or another artifact of equal or greater power.

"The mist is not a mere shroud. It is an extension of my will."

The Ritual of Dominion

If the staff remains in the hands of an attuned wielder for longer than 13 nights, it begins to alter their soul, preparing them for something far greater… or far worse.

  • Each long rest, the wielder must succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC 24) or lose fragments of their identity, gradually replacing them with echoes of Aranaidas' essence.
  • If the wielder fails seven consecutive saves, their body becomes a vessel, and their soul is consumed, replaced entirely by Aranaidas himself.

"You are a temporary vessel. Soon, you will be forgotten. I, however, will remain."
