Armor (breastplate), legendary (requires attunement by a Fighter, Cleric, or Artificer)

This ancient suit of blackened breastplate armor is encrusted with barnacles, rusted chains, and fragments of coral, as though it had spent centuries on the ocean floor. It constantly drips seawater, and faint, ghostly whispers echo from its metal plates when submerged.

  • Armor of the Abyss. While wearing this armor, you gain a +3 bonus to AC. Additionally, you have resistance to cold and necrotic damage.
  • Unyielding Bulk. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
  • Dreadnought’s Stride. You cannot be moved against your will by any means unless you are incapacitated. You also ignore difficult terrain caused by water, mud, or shifting sands.
  • Terror of the Deep. You have advantage on Intimidation checks, and creatures that start their turn within 10 feet of you while underwater must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. They can repeat the save at the end of each of their turns. A creature that succeeds is immune to this effect for 24 hours.

Curse: The First Captain’s Burden

Once attuned, Abyssforged Breatstplate cannot be removed unless targeted by a Remove Curse spell or similar divine intervention. The armor feels heavier with time, as though it wishes to drag you to the depths. If you fall unconscious while wearing it, spectral chains of black iron wrap around your limbs, and you sink instantly to the bottom of any body of water if nearby to one. If you die, your soul becomes bound to the armor, and your body may rise again as a cursed revenant, unwilling to leave the sea’s grasp.

This armor consists of a fitted metal chest piece worn with supple leather. Although it leaves the legs and arms relatively unprotected, this armor provides good protection for the wearer's vital organs while leaving the wearer relatively unencumbered.

Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Resistance: Cold, Resistance: Necrotic, Carrying Capacity: Large, Fighter, Cleric, or Artificer
