Item Card: Amulet of Hysteria
Wondrous Item, Very Rare (Requires Attunement by a Spellcaster)
A swirling violet gemstone, cracked with veins of black, hangs from a delicate chain of unknown metal. When worn, faint whispers—half-laughter, half-screams—echo at the edges of perception, threatening to unravel the mind of both wielder and victim alike.
Properties:
• Fractured Sanity – When you deal psychic damage to a creature with a leveled spell, their Wisdom is reduced by 2 for 1 minute.
• Echoing Madness – Spells that deal psychic damage deal an additional +1d6 psychic damage per level the spell is cast above its base level.
• Mind’s Precipice – Any creature whose Wisdom is reduced to 5 or lower by this effect suffers disadvantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws and begins to hear phantom whispers urging paranoia and despair.
Cursed Whispers:
If the wearer is reduced to 0 HP, they must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or suffer 1d4 Wisdom damage (recoverable only by Greater Restoration or long rest).
Lore:
• Created by a forgotten Mind Flayer Lich, this amulet was meant to unravel the minds of its victims until they were nothing more than thoughtless vessels, ripe for consumption.
• Often sought by mad scholars, psychic assassins, and cult leaders who wish to spread hysteria.
Notes: Requires Attunement by a Spellcaster
