Wondrous Item, uncommon

This arrow appears and functions as a +1 arrow, indistinguishable from others of its kind. However, it carries a hidden curse that afflicts any creature who comes into contact with it.

Curse.

Once a creature touches this arrow, they become cursed. While cursed in this way, whenever they make an attack with a bow, there is a 5% chance (rolling 1–5 on a d100) that they unknowingly nock this arrow instead of a normal one.

Unfortunate Transposition.

When fired, the wielder and the arrow instantly swap positions and momentum mid-flight:

  • The wielder is launched at full speed toward the target, while the arrow drops harmlessly to the ground where the shot was made.
  • If the wielder collides with a Large or smaller creature, both are knocked prone, pushed 10 feet in the direction the arrow was fired, and take 1d10 bludgeoning damage per 10 feet traveled (maximum 3d10).
  • If the wielder collides with a Huge or larger creature, only the wielder is knocked prone and lands within melee range of the target.
  • If the attack misses, the wielder fly's and falls prone within melee range of their target, taking half of the 1d10 per 10 feet (max 3d10) bludgeoning damage upon impact.

The arrow magically returns to the wielder’s quiver in perfect condition after use, even if discarded or destroyed. The curse remains until Remove Curse is cast on the wielder, their quiver, or the arrow itself. Upon removal, the arrow loses all magical properties and becomes a mundane arrow.
