📖 Description

The Auroragemma is a gold- and green-tinged crystal permeated by sunlight. This item is legendary in the Underdark because it cannot exist naturally underground; it is said to have been formed by primordial surface magic, infused with the raw energy of dawn.

Its possessor carries a fragment of that world lost to the drow and creatures of the Underdark, inspiring fear and envy among those who fear the light of the sun.

🔮 Magical Properties

•Aurora Light (at will) – The artifact emits natural sunlight in a 30-foot radius. This light can be reduced or extended up to 60 feet as a bonus action.

•Blessing of the Surface (1/day) – The bearer can cast Daylight without requiring material components.

•Heal Breaker (1/day) – The Dawnrage can dispel darkness magic, such as Greater Darkness, and can neutralize blindness effects or shadow-related curses.

•Darled by Drow – The bearer of the Dawnrage gains advantage on all saving throws against darkness and illusion spells cast by drow or beings of the Underdark.

•Echo of Light – If the bearer is exposed to sunlight for at least an hour, the Dawnrage stores this energy and can release a burst of radiant light (6d6 points of damage, 20-foot radius) as a bonus action. This effect can only be used once before it must be recharged.

🎭 Campaign Narrative Impact

•A Forbidden Talisman: In the Underdark, possessing such an item might draw the ire of Lolth’s most fanatical drow, for light is their mortal enemy.

•An Ancient Power: It could be the last fragment of gold elf magic, hidden for millennia. The drow may once have revered or feared its existence.

•A Contraband Item: Retrieving it from the surface and bringing it to the Underdark could be an epic undertaking, perhaps as part of a plan to destabilize the drow’s power.

•A Temptation for Drow Forsaken: If a drow is seeking redemption or a return to the light, the Auroragemma could be a symbolic or even magical key to change.

📜 Legend of the Dawnrage

According to ancient tales, the Dawnrage was forged by the High Druids of the Surface to counter the expansion of the Underdark. It is said that one of the first drow priestesses, before the Fall of the dark elves, tried to protect it, but was betrayed and the gem was lost.

Now, deep in the Underdark, it is whispered that a drow prophecy speaks of a champion of the dawn who will bring light to the dark lands…
