Weapon (glaive), legendary (requires attunement by a moment where your resolve was unshaken, where you chose mercy or righteous wrath not out of duty, but from the truth in your soul)

“A blade forged not in flame, but in mourning. Each drop of divine sorrow whispers a name the gods have not forgotten.”

Forged in the aftermath of a divine tragedy, Angel Tears is a battle scythe said to be quenched in the weeping light of a martyrdom unseen by mortal eyes. The blade sings in the presence of undeath, its curved edge wreathed in radiant mist whenever holy water feeds its sorrowful core. Carvings along the haft tell a story in Celestial—a lament for the fallen and a vow of vengeance.

This radiant scythe pulses with celestial energy. The silvered blade gleams with a mournful light, and faint weeping can be heard when it is unsheathed in silence. The weapon bears an angelic rune once sealed by the Order of the Gauntlet—now cracked and glowing with sacred fury.

 Weapon Profile (Battle Scythe):
Martial melee weapon
Damage: 1d10 slashing
Properties: Heavy, two-handed, reach
Proficiency: Fighters, Paladins, Clerics (if proficient with martial weapons)

 Magical Properties

  • +3 Weapon:
You gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
  • Celestial Reservoir:
Your actions have awakened the spirit within the scythe. While holy water remains in the celestial reservoir, whenever the scythe weeps its tears deal an extra 2d6 radiant damage to undead and fiends on hit.  The holy water is consumed over 10 successful hits. Refilling the reservoir requires one action and a flask of holy water.
  • Weeping Judgment:
When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with this weapon, you may choose to unleash a divine burst of sorrowful light. Each undead or fiend within 20 feet must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or take 4d6 radiant damage and be blinded until the end of their next turn.

Usable 3 times per long rest.
  • Dawn’s Mercy:
If an ally within 30 feet of you drops to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to mark their soul with a sigil of preservation. The creature instead drops to 1 hit point, and radiant light flares from your blade. You regain use of this feature after a long rest.

Greater Curse: Burden of the Martyr

The curse of Angel Tears deepens as the blade awakens.

While attuned, you are haunted by the memories of the innocent dead. You are unable to benefit from a long rest unless you spend at least 10 minutes in prayer or meditation before sleeping.

At the start of each dawn, you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or suffer 2d6 psychic damage and become emotionally overwhelmed until the end of your next turn (disadvantage on attacks, saves, and ability checks during that turn). This damage ignores resistance and immunity.

Additionally, you are compelled to protect the innocent and destroy undead. If you willingly refuse to aid in the destruction of an undead creature when you have the power to act, the weapon's bonus becomes +1 until you perform a redemptive act (DM’s discretion).

Awakened Sentience (Optional Flavour or Mechanic)

Angel Tears houses the residual spirit of Seraphina, the Mourning Flame. She can communicate telepathically in Celestial with her wielder and will sometimes speak when near undead or places of immense sorrow. She is sorrowful, noble, and utterly devoted to protecting the sanctity of life.

 Attunement Description

Attunement happens in battle—or perhaps just after a courageous or noble act. A moment where your resolve was unshaken, where you chose mercy or righteous wrath not out of duty, but from the truth in your soul. The blade hums in your hand, vibrating like a struck bell. The reservoir flares, casting halos of light in all directions. The runes along the haft burn brighter than ever before, and the fractured Celestial seal near the hilt cracks open completely, releasing a pulse of radiant energy that halts even time for a breath. In that instant, you see her—Seraphina, the Mourning Flame—not as a dream, but as a presence. Her voice is soft, full of grief and grace: “You have heard my sorrow... and chosen not to look away.” The weapon awakens. Its power surges, not just holy, but purposeful. It knows you. It trusts you. The soul within no longer weeps alone. From this point forward, Angel Tears becomes legendary, its full power unlocked, and its will forever bound to yours.

Lost Lore: The Final Tear of Seraphina

Among the scattered relics of Chult, few speak of the celestial blade once wielded by the angel Seraphina the Mourning Flame, a warrior of Lathander sent to seal away a fragment of unholy power deep in the jungles. Her mission led her to Omu, where she confronted a ritual of unspeakable darkness beneath the temple of a forgotten god.

It is said that Seraphina fell not in battle, but in grief—unable to save the innocent souls sacrificed to forge the Soulmonger’s first prototype. Her final tear quenched the blade that would become known as Angel Tears, a scythe forged from her own radiant essence and tempered by divine sorrow.

The weapon was hidden away by the Order of the Gauntlet, sealed in a buried sanctum somewhere near Mbala or deep within the ruins of Omu itself. Its blade weeps in the presence of undeath, and its sorrow burns hottest when the Death Curse looms.

Some say the weapon is fated to find the one who will succeed where Seraphina could not: to end the curse and silence the Soulmonger once and for all
