Scroll, artifact

Lifeblood begins as a piece of parchment with nothing more than a poem written on it... As the player starts to read the paper, they are compelled to read out loud...

A thousand souls entreated me

And thousands more will fail.

For skeins of mortal revelry

are rarely worthy tales.

Some sang of swords and roaring flame,

Some worshiped waters still,

but none have earned the right to claim

the wonders of my will.

So now, awakened, listening,

I let my watch commence.

A witness to your withering,

your insignificance.

Yet if you live a life replete,

I'll see that you ascend.

I open but for tales complete,

So make a worthy end.

After they finish reading the poem, the parchment begins to turn to ash and crumble in your fingers. As the ash starts to whisk away, it begins to whisk and gather around the readers neck. The ash then transforms into a heavy black iron amulet with one large ruby in the center with six smaller pink rubies circling it.

As the amulet comes to form, the wearer hears a female voice continuously whispering the poem in their head. It is quiet maddening at first, however the wearer eventually becomes used to it. Once the parchment is read, the amulet cannot be taken off until the character fulfills all of the deeds below, or dies prematurely.

Lifeblood bears witness to the wearer's deeds. Upon completing the following sentient item’s quests, a corresponding pink ruby awakens, blazing with light.

  • Save a life
  • Take a life
  • Procreate - even if you already have a child
  • Become renowned - famous and respected
  • Become nothing - live as a hermit
  • Make a dear personal sacrifice for someone else

If the wearer leads such a full life as to experience each of these things, all six of the pink rubies will be lit. There is only one way to light the center stone...

• The character must die.

Lifeblood then whisks their soul away to the plane where she resides. From there, the enlightened player's soul may cast a Wish spell of nearly unlimited power. Will you use it to create a new world? To fix the one you left? Or for something else? Whatever you choose, you’ve earned it.
