Ice Lich’s Crown
Wondrous Item (cursed, legendary), requires attunement by a spellcaster
Forged of blackened silver and adorned with jagged shards of eternally frozen ice, this ancient crown once adorned the brow of Aurelthas the Frostvein, an ice-wielding Lich whose name has long been struck from the records of mortal kingdoms. Whether the Lich was truly destroyed or waits in frigid dormancy is uncertain… but his will still lingers, cold and calculating. Some believe this crown was a gift by the Matron Of Ravens to Aurelthas.
The moment the crown touches your head, your blood runs cold. Your heart slows, beating only once or twice per minute. Your breath steams in even the warmest air. You must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or fall under the control of Aurelthas’ ancient spirit. If you fail, your body is overtaken entirely, and the Lich assumes command, using your form as his new vessel. If you succeed, the crown grants you immense, terrible power… at a cost.
While attuned and in control, you gain the following benefits:
• Frozen Vitality: You no longer age and are immune to exhaustion from cold environments. You gain resistance to cold damage.
• Icy Pulse: Your body temperature drops to near freezing. Undead and creatures from the Plane of Ice no longer see you as hostile unless provoked.
The Crown holds 3 charges, and regains all expended charges daily at midnight. You may expend 1 charge to use one of the following abilities:
• Glacial Reclamation: Once per day, you may expend a charge to regain all expended spell slots as the crown siphons frozen power into your soul.
• Frozen Surge: Once per day, you may expend a charge to double all spell and weapon damage for 1d8 rounds as your veins pump with frigid arcana.
• Legacy of Aurelthas: Once per day, you may expend a charge to cast a cold-based spell of your choice at 6th level. This may include:
• Ray of Frost
• Frost Fingers
• Ice Knife
• Rime’s Binding Ice
• Wall of Ice
• Ice Storm
• Cone of Cold
• Anticold Sphere
• Frostbite
All spells cast this way require no components and are suffused with the Lich’s ancient essence — they appear more jagged, more brutal, and leave frostburn in their wake.

Curse – Whisper of the Frostvein:
Even if the initial saving throw is passed, each time a charge is expended, the wearer must roll a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or allow the Lich’s will to surface momentarily. On a failure, the wearer experiences a brief blackout and may lose control for 1 round (DM’s discretion). Over time, Aurelthas’ soul may grow stronger, especially if multiple charges are used in a day…
Notes: Once attuned it cannot be removed.
