A fine strand of shimmering silver-black thread, cool to the touch and lighter than breath. When held, the wielder hears faint lullabies in an unknown language. The thread coils of its own volition, especially in places touched by dream or nightmare.
-
Functions as an arcane focus for spellcasting.
-
While wielding it, the user gains advantage on ability checks made to interact with dream-based or oneiromantic effects (such as navigating dreams, identifying dream-based magic, or resisting sleep curses).
-
The thread glows faintly in the presence of nightmare corruption or Fractured dreamscapes.
Dream Seal (1 use)
Once, the wielder may invoke the thread's full power to seal a dream-born effect, either by:
-
Sealing a Nightmare Entity or Dream Effect: As an action, target a dream-based creature or magical dream effect (e.g. a haunt, illusion, or psychic projection). The target must succeed on a DC 16 Charisma saving throw or be bound within the thread, becoming harmless for 1 hour or until dispelled.
-
If used on a Mist-born or Fractured creature, the creature takes 4d10 psychic damage on a failed save instead, and half on a success.
-
-
Ward the Mind: The thread may be stitched (ritually) into a piece of clothing or bedding, granting the wearer immunity to magical sleep and resistance to psychic damage until the next long rest. Once used this way, the thread burns to ash.
